Braided tippet and leader?

Dear FTF Member,
Support FTF by Subscribing to Hatches Today! 2011 Issue - In Stock
Since 2003 FlyTyingForum.com has grown from a handful of people to 30,000 registered members and has become the largest fly tying community in the world. In 2007 I published the first issue of Hatches because I felt the FTF community could offer a printed magazine that far exceeds anything the fly tying world has ever seen published. To this day, Hatches is largely made up of articles submitted to me by FTF member and FTF will continue to play a large role in the future of Hatches. Hatches truly is a grassroots effort, unlike many of the other publications in circulation that have the backing of large media corporations. The future of both Hatches and FTF depends on the support of FTF members like you. For $7 a year, you not only help ensure that I have the resources needed to be able to offer you all of the features you enjoy today free of charge, you also get 96 pages of pure fly tying awesomeness that is worth the price by itself. Click Here for Subscription Info Thank You -Will

Well I took three pieces of 8 lbs. mono and braided them to make 2 1/2 feet of braided mono. Then I took two pieces of the same mono and twisted them to make 3 feet of twisted mono.
So heres the setup; 2 1/2 ft of braided mono, with 3 ft of twisted mono attched to the braided mono, and 4 ft single strand 8 lbs mono attched to the twisted mono.

How well will this work for a tippet and leader if you took the braided end attached it to the fly line?

Not sure...

Most leader formulas call for the butt section to be longer than the mid section so your braided part should be longer than the twisted part and the twisted part longer than the tippet - but hey if it works it works.

Almost sounds like a furled leader - which are easier to make. Lots of people swear by them, and lots of people swear at them. I use them for bass bugging just because they will turn a fly over at 60' but also at 10' when you are casting short - sometimes if a target is real close you can cast just the leader and have it turn the fly over - useful for belly boating.
