To this day, Hatches is largely made up of articles submitted to me by FTF member and FTF will continue to play a large role in the future of Hatches. Hatches truly is a grassroots effort, unlike many of the other publications in circulation that have the backing of large media corporations. The future of both Hatches and FTF depends on the support of FTF members like you. I apologize if I offended anyone. That was not my intention, I can assure you of that.

Steeldrifter closed a topic I posted, because it offended some people, and it was taken as a political view of mine, instead of information I found interesting, and thought it might make for a worthy while topic.I was wrong!!!

I would like to share some of what I PM to the moderator.

Hey Steve, I ran across that story on the net.If I had given it more thought I wouldn't have posted it.My bad to think the lodge was one part of the forum to post open air topics.I guess I found out otherwise. That info: was news to me, and news only , and in no way meant to inpose my or anyone elses belief in a canadate upon others(I actually found it in the Joke section). The fact of the matter is I'm not sure yet, who im voting for.In fact I was hoping on a constructive conversation, to further my own knowledge about past presidents and the history of this great country and how freedom came to be and the price that was paid for the freedom of speech.
My uncle got a purple heart and hero statis at Iwo Jima, so I take my rights and the rights of others very serious.

Computer stuff and forums are new to me, so I dont know all the do's and dont's yet(Sorry).
I have his packet of 45 pictures, taken by Joe Rosenthal.
If anyones interested ill post a couple of pics from that packet.

L.W.

I read that post that you put up and I could see how in the times that we live in, it causing a bit of a row. Even had me thinking at work about a reply of sorts. I guess that it is safe to say that politics and fishing don't mix. I am interested in the history of those pics though. Is that not the photogragher that took those pictures for Life magazine?

LW

I personally was not offended. I thought it was kind of a cool list of stuff actually. But it goes to show how you can make numbers fit just about any arguement you want. I too am completely undecided on who to vote for. I dont trust either of them.

I found no problem with the post, but knew it would drum up hard feelings. Since there are alot of "anti war" types out there, even in the flyfishing community. I think some of the problems come from bulk emails like that one. Has been surfing around the world quite a few times. Plus was innaccurate in some spots as well.

I come from a big military family too. My grandpa on my Mom's side fought in the Pacific Theater in the infantry. My uncles on my Dad side (as old as my grandpa on my Mom's lol) mostly fought in the European theatre, including my Uncle who was on a B-17 bomber near the end of the European war (and retired after being in three wars after a brief tour in Vietnam at end of his career) and another who was infantry through Italy. So have alot of family history that spans through the Civil War t present day conflicts. So find this stuff non offensive. But know what this type of chat will do to a board, and 100% back what Steve did. You will find it will slowly deteriorate a board fast.

But no worries.

Hi Art, the fact of it is I posted that last night, turned the computer off, went on to bed , never thought about it any.
And was very surprised to see all the hoopla over it, when I got in from work. laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

I think it's a shame, we cant come together, and laugh, cry, discuss, poke fun, etc.without someone getting bent out of shape because someone else made a mistake of sorts.
It's OK people lighten up a bit, go fishing, enjoy, it not the end of the world, because I made a mistake.
Like you havn't made one !!! laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif
I did think to myself after I posted it "I probablly should have put on there this is not necessary my openion, just something interesting I found" .But instead I closed the Computer and went on to bed. dunno.gif

So you see your making a big deal out of nothing. So lighten up-OK
Unless you just like waiting for someone to mess up, so you can jump all over them and make yourself look bigger, better, or more important.
Shame on you tongue.gif if thats the case.
My post wasn't on the flyfishing section, but the (lodge) so I thought at the time some would laugh some would share a story.looks like I was wrong and nieve. laugh.gif

A bit of something I learned a long long time ago.

We all have more in common than we like to admit but take one of those differences and you have senseless reasons for hate, ridicule and distrust. I use to post on the paflyfisher.com forums but every post there would turn into a political debate and then turn into spiteful posts. Here, people focus on fishing and thats what I like about it. The moderators keep out the .1% of the differences we have that cause 100% of the problems.

I've yet to see anyone vote for a president and think that he is the worst thing for America and I'm sure democrat or republican you want what you think is best for us all..

Mcfly very wise words!

I just want to say this...Will Sr. i have no problem with anything you've posted bud i know after talking to you for the last couple weeks that you are not the type of guy to post something because you think it will get things stirred up. I closed that topic last night simply because i have had experiance on other boardes with certian topics that went south in a hurry and i know that political/religous and (fishing related) special regs are a few topics that can get even the best of friends to fighting in a hurry, so i figured it was best to close that topic before things got to the point of someone taking offense.

Anyone that knows me knows that i am about the most open minded mod you will ever find when it comes to topics to be posted. I myself have posted topics that are way off topic for a fly tying site but i try my best to keep things that "might" cause someone to get upset to a minimum.

So leaky no problem here on my part bud dont sweat it i always enjoy your posts so lets just let this slip into the forgotten past and go forward.

Dont forget SD wub's you guys wub.gif ...after all if it wasnt for you guys i wouldnt be making...hey wait a minute!...i dont make shit.gif ive_been_ripped.gif

I read your post last night LW and in my opinion, no apology is necessary..........I understand why it was shut down........unfortunately, as was mentioned above, discussions about politics/religion can get heated quick.......even if the post wasn't meant to be a "discussion"........I have a group of friends from high school that i have stayed in touch with over the years, over the last 10 years, we have kept in touch over the internet. One of the guys set up a mailroom for us to keep in touch easier (he's a former billionaire now multi-millionaire, but thats another story) over the years we have found our political tastes have gone in all directions and just recently, one of the guys posted a similiar letter in our mailroom for everyone to read, I believe it weas intended to be a joke, but it got very ugly......it's taken a couple weeks, but the guys are starting to come back around........ I enjoy your posts, don't sweat it.......keep'em comin'

Mike

L.W. ,
No offence was taken, remember I live on the other side of the border tongue.gif , as the political aspect has no bearing on me as far as the upcoming election is concerned. Just that as it was posted, that is one of those subjects that can kill a common bond, and that is where my reply would have been focused. I thinks it's time to call this one yesterday and enjoy today, hoping for good things tomorrow. ( If you want we can go outback and wrestle in the mud about it laugh.gif laugh.gif )
I come from a family with strong military histories both past and current, and will always support the troops no matter where they are sent. One grandfather escorted conveys on the Atlantic, and the other one was in Italy as well (Seaforth Highlanders).

As a side note as I got viciously smacked up the head. My wife is American born and raised in the mountains of New hampshire.

No harm done. Almost every male in my family has served in one branch or another. Alot of foriegn war veterans standing around at the family reunions. My wife and I both served as medics in Desert Storm. My cousin is in a hospital in Germany today. Recovering from a morter hit in Iraq that killed his best friend and 3 other soldiers. He'll make it.

No hard feelings on this end either cool.gif

Like Steve and others mentioned, the nature of politics has the potential to turn ugly during discussions. Even among posters that generally "get along", one can create permanent damage by throwing the proverbial wedge into the mix. One would think that such threads would not be taken out of context, but having lived on boards that allow discussions of this type, it is evident that ill feelings are created by stating one's affilliation. I guess the fact that one can't see the body language/facial expressions behind a keyboard may have something to do with it. dunno.gif

It seems to be the consensus that threads pertaining to politics/religion should be left at the door in order to keep focus on the fly-fishing/tying aspect that this site covers very well.

It's a touchy subject and maybe the mods are somewhat gunshy, but honestly we only have the best interest in mind by curbing such topics. wink.gif
I know where they live, I know what they eat. Now it's time to fool them with thread, feathers and roadkill.

I was gonna suggest keeping politics out of here, but after reading I see you did! Good Job! I know of one other Hunting and Fishing site that has a ton of Politics and other non-sense threads on it so if anyone needs a fix send me a PM and I will direct you to the no good piece of garbabge site... cool.gif
