Has anyone saw my swiss straw?

Dear FTF Member,
Support FTF by Subscribing to Hatches Today! 2011 Issue - In Stock
Since 2003 FlyTyingForum.com has grown from a handful of people to 30,000 registered members and has become the largest fly tying community in the world. In 2007 I published the first issue of Hatches because I felt the FTF community could offer a printed magazine that far exceeds anything the fly tying world has ever seen published. To this day, Hatches is largely made up of articles submitted to me by FTF member and FTF will continue to play a large role in the future of Hatches. Hatches truly is a grassroots effort, unlike many of the other publications in circulation that have the backing of large media corporations. The future of both Hatches and FTF depends on the support of FTF members like you. For $7 a year, you not only help ensure that I have the resources needed to be able to offer you all of the features you enjoy today free of charge, you also get 96 pages of pure fly tying awesomeness that is worth the price by itself. Click Here for Subscription Info Thank You -Will

I was gonna tie up some crawdads earlier and looked nearly everywhere for my swiss straw (3 different colors mind you) but its still MIA....man I've got too get better organized. I've got so much material stored in boxes and drawers that it's not funny and since I'll be headed to Memphis this weekend I've been putting together a laundry list of material that I "must" have while I'm so close to Bass Pro.... I think that I might be obsessed naw I guess I just need to put swiss straw at the top of the list!! rolleyes.gif

felt works nicely for craw shellbacks...have even substituted plastic strips from zip-lock style bags and let the colors of the underbody show through...but then again....nice "excuse" to hit the shop! Good shopping, Mr Teeter!

In the mean time, check with your local florist. When we buy flowers for my wife, they usually tie the wrap with rafia (swiss straw). Not sure about colors - they're not usually a natural color, but they may have it.

gentlemen i appreciate the suggested substitutes all of which I have within reach of my vice... somewhere. therein lies the problem since I can't find whatever odd material that I may need at different times. I've been kickin around different ideas for organizing my desk and materials too but I just don't have quite enough space on my converted computer desk, which keeps leading me to the thought that I may need to build a tying station complete with spot lights, a security system and of course some curb finders headbang.gif but since the largemouth around here are hitting topwaters like crazy right now and the crappie are biting too I guess the command center will have to wait until winter and the much needed material on the list that i must pick up Friday at BPS will suffer the same fate as the swiss straw and the vicious cycle will start all over again rolleyes.gif devil.gif

BDH thank you very much for the warm welcome, I do have a question though if they come to pick you up for committment and you cross a river or stream will they stop so you can fish for a while because if they don't I'm gonna take my crayons and run when they get here. bugeyes.gif Oh yeah I will tell the friendly folks at BPS that you said hello!!!
