Since 2003 FlyTyingForum.com has grown from a handful of people to 30,000 registered members and has become the largest fly tying community in the world. In 2007 I published the first issue of Hatches because I felt the FTF community could offer a printed magazine that far exceeds anything the fly tying world has ever seen published. To this day, Hatches is largely made up of articles submitted to me by FTF member and FTF will continue to play a large role in the future of Hatches. Hatches truly is a grassroots effort, unlike many of the other publications in circulation that have the backing of large media corporations. The future of both Hatches and FTF depends on the support of FTF members like you. For $7 a year, you not only help ensure that I have the resources needed to be able to offer you all of the features you enjoy today free of charge, you also get 96 pages of pure fly tying awesomeness that is worth the price by itself. I'm running windowsXP home edition and 2 nights ago i downloaded the latest "up date" that pops up in the lower right corner from microsoft. Well...anyone notice how i wasnt online much the last 2 nights? know why? i think that "update" crap jacked my computer all out'a shape blink.gif

Everything was fine till i downloaded the update 2 nights ago and then about 20 mins after that things started moving S-L-O-W and i mean real slow, then i started having problems even getting my email(outlook express) to even come up...then i was haveing everything just freeze and shut down and couldnt get it to do anything till i restarted.

So just about 2 hours ago i removed the update that i downloaded (called windowsxp 2 pack and everything is back to normal now....i talked to another friend that said he got the update and it didthe same thing to him just last week.

Dont know if its something that's screwed up with that update or what but anyone else running the same thing and gets that "new update" to install called windowsxp 2pack..I'd say dont do it.

steve. I installed it and it is great. But there are a few things you have to do first. First defrag the computer, then run the spyware programs, I run both spybot and adaware. Then install. I have the actuall disc for it from microsoft, a coworker gave it to me. I can send that to you when i get done letting my inlaws borrow it. The new update has a firewall and pop up blocker in it.

SP 2 for windows xp can be a nasty thing. It runs more services and bloats Windows XP even more. How much it slows down your system depends on the processor/memory and how many other programs you are running.

We all know windows isn't number one due to its stabliltiy, easy of use, or being the best os out there. Least I sure hope everyone knows.

SD, If you download service pack two again, make sure ALL of your antivirus software and S&D immunization stuff is OFF. it messes with SP2 ALOT to have virus protection ruinning when you download or install it i've found. as an extra help, i would download a web browser called Mozilla Firefox. 100% more secure then IE, which is what Service pack two was meant to do, make IE more secure. and it runs faster and has more cool features than IE, and you can import all your IE settings so you wont even loose your bookmarks. i actually recommend this for everyone, and mozilla coupled with S&D and maybe lavasoft Ad-Aware, are a great combo with SP2 to make a pretty secure machine

firefox
ad-aware

EDIT: yes, you have to turn your firewall off too. it sucks to do, but the service pack does help. and service pack 3 will be here in january too, so you need SP2 to get everything later

Well, I guess I should have knocked on some wood when I told you I had no problems. I was on the computer last night, ran fine, no problems. My wife informs me this morning that she can not even get it to turn on now. There is powere going to the machine becasue lights inside on the mother board are on, but it will not turn on. I took it in and the computer guys said it could be the power supply or the mother board.

GREAT!!!!!!!
