Since 2003 FlyTyingForum.com has grown from a handful of people to 30,000 registered members and has become the largest fly tying community in the world. In 2007 I published the first issue of Hatches because I felt the FTF community could offer a printed magazine that far exceeds anything the fly tying world has ever seen published. To this day, Hatches is largely made up of articles submitted to me by FTF member and FTF will continue to play a large role in the future of Hatches. Hatches truly is a grassroots effort, unlike many of the other publications in circulation that have the backing of large media corporations. The future of both Hatches and FTF depends on the support of FTF members like you. For $7 a year, you not only help ensure that I have the resources needed to be able to offer you all of the features you enjoy today free of charge, you also get 96 pages of pure fly tying awesomeness that is worth the price by itself. Does anyone's Danvise have a really sticky jaw release knob? One of my vises broke so I picked one up - never used one before and the hook is ridiculously hard to get out. Also, even when the the jaw knob is fully tightened (and impossible to release) the hook moves around in the vise. Maybe someone has some tips for me.

Setting the hook in a Danvise is a two step process.

1. With the cam, the lever underneath the vise jaws, pulled off to one side, tighten the screw tight enough for the hook to remain in place. But not if you push down on it.

2. Move the cam until it is in positioned parallel and underneath the shaft of the hook.

a. If it is difficult to throw the cam into place, you have tightened the screw too much. You can break something that way. Back the screw off a bit and try positioning the cam again.

b. If the hook slips out of the jaws when you throw the cam into position, try positioning the cam on the other side when tightening the screw.

TIP: If the screw is hard to move in and out, apply a tiny amount of lubricant.

Thanks.

Don't feel bad! It was my first and is still my vise. For a while I did the same thing you were doing until someone showed me how the Danvise was supposed to work. It is a wonder I didn't break it.
