Dear FTF Member,

Since 2003 FlyTyingForum.com has grown from a handful of people to 30,000 registered members and has become the largest fly tying community in the world. In 2007 I published the first issue of Hatches because I felt the FTF community could offer a printed magazine that far exceeds anything the fly tying world has ever seen published. To this day, Hatches is largely made up of articles submitted to me by FTF member and FTF will continue to play a large role in the future of Hatches. Hatches truly is a grassroots effort, unlike many of the other publications in circulation that have the backing of large media corporations. The future of both Hatches and FTF depends on the support of FTF members like you. For $7 a year, you not only help ensure that I have the resources needed to be able to offer you all of the features you enjoy today free of charge, you also get 96 pages of pure fly tying awesomeness that is worth the price by itself. Well the Flea Market has started off being good to me again this year. I've heard everyone talk about Medalist 1494 reels and 2 weeks ago I got one in really good shape for $10 bucks!!!!!

It's looking to be a good year. A guy has some Browning Silaflex fly rods that he was wrapping and says they'll be for sale soon but won't say how much.

Silaflex...boy oh boy that's what got me started in fly fishing 20 yrs ago. Found my grandpas old Silaflex fly rod after he passed away and started on that rod with the same Medalist reel you just bought (only I think mine was a 1495 or 1496 or something like that, it was a size bigger). I loaded it up with some 6wt level fly line and went to learning. Some of the "kids" just starting out probably have no idea what "level" fly line is when I say that but I bet you remember level line don't ya fatman? God I hated that stuff laugh.gif

I still have my original 8'6" 6/7wt 3pc Silaflex fly rod I learned on 20 yrs ago. Actually have it stripped down and waiting for me to restore it when I get a chance.

bugeyes.gif oh my God Paul, I haven't seen any level line for sale in a shop for probably 10-12 yrs now. I thought they stopped making it. I would have bought that damn line for $13 took it home and burned it just to rid the world of the remaining stock from the 1980's!

Those are great reels. I have one that I have been using for 35 years. Just a solid, dependable performer.
