Spotted (not stippled) Popper New Pattern Database Submission

Dear FTF Member,
Support FTF by Subscribing to Hatches Today! 2011 Issue - In Stock
Since 2003 FlyTyingForum.com has grown from a handful of people to 30,000 registered members and has become the largest fly tying community in the world. In 2007 I published the first issue of Hatches because I felt the FTF community could offer a printed magazine that far exceeds anything the fly tying world has ever seen published. To this day, Hatches is largely made up of articles submitted to me by FTF member and FTF will continue to play a large role in the future of Hatches. Hatches truly is a grassroots effort, unlike many of the other publications in circulation that have the backing of large media corporations. The future of both Hatches and FTF depends on the support of FTF members like you. For $7 a year, you not only help ensure that I have the resources needed to be able to offer you all of the features you enjoy today free of charge, you also get 96 pages of pure fly tying awesomeness that is worth the price by itself. Click Here for Subscription Info Thank You -Will

Another popper from the first batch of turned balsa. I was so glad to get a few decent bodies that I forgot to smooth the faces. Looks a bit second class, but it will still pop and fish. Have learned to slow down and have smoothed the faces on the second and third batches.

Great poppers BigD.
I've been playing with balsa and cork here lately myself,
I have great time with them. So many things you can do.
That top water crash of Bigmouth bolts up just right.
Been thinking of trying something on the Dahlberg patern
with the balsa, Have you or anybody tryed one?

I second what Stippled said.

Henry, the sloped face diving hard bodied bug is a great fly; one of my favorites. I hope Big Daddy don't mind me posting a pic to show you a few hard bodied divers I've done.
Not a great closeup but in this pic you can see two yellow/red and a white/blue of mine. The bass and bream love these.

Kirk

stip·ple (stpl)
tr.v. stip·pled, stip·pling, stip·ples
1. To draw, engrave, or paint in dots or short strokes.
2. To apply (paint, for example) in dots or short strokes.
3. To dot, fleck, or speckle: "They crossed a field stippled with purple weeds" (Flannery O'Connor).
n.
1. A method of drawing, engraving, or painting using dots or short strokes.
2. The effect produced by stippling.

stipple seems to a fancy word for paint a dot biggrin.gif

Thanks for the pic. Kirk.
BIG D I'm glueing up some stock,
got to give this diver a shot. I think
I can make this thing on the dremal
maybe form the collar out of the balsa,
cut it in half and have two bodies.

I believe stippling is the method of placing colored dots to create a different color as well as creating degrees of shading. For shadiing, dots are placed close together for darker shadow areas and further apart for lighter shading.
For color, dots of different colors are placed close together and on top of each other to give the impression of another color; for instance, instead of placing orange dots, you would place red and yellow dots. Basically speaking, I think that is stippling.
You can check out Stipple's website for example of some of his black and white stippled drawing/renderings.
Of course you could know this and are just being funny.

Yep, you sure can. I have been shaping the bodies, them cutting them in half for two bodies...Now you're thinking like an old pro, Henry! Have some fun with it....I am...

Hoping to get her in the water sometime this week. Temps are dropping into the mid 80's and cooling the surface waters nicely at night. Been at least a month since Jamie or I have been out...
