Purple Chub (bucktail streamer) New Pattern Database Submission

Dear FTF Member,
Support FTF by Subscribing to Hatches Today! 2011 Issue - In Stock
Since 2003 FlyTyingForum.com has grown from a handful of people to 30,000 registered members and has become the largest fly tying community in the world. In 2007 I published the first issue of Hatches because I felt the FTF community could offer a printed magazine that far exceeds anything the fly tying world has ever seen published. To this day, Hatches is largely made up of articles submitted to me by FTF member and FTF will continue to play a large role in the future of Hatches. Hatches truly is a grassroots effort, unlike many of the other publications in circulation that have the backing of large media corporations. The future of both Hatches and FTF depends on the support of FTF members like you. For $7 a year, you not only help ensure that I have the resources needed to be able to offer you all of the features you enjoy today free of charge, you also get 96 pages of pure fly tying awesomeness that is worth the price by itself. Click Here for Subscription Info Thank You -Will

This is an old fav back in the Eastern KY streams. Turns a lot of Kentuck's and Smallies. I botched the eyes up and this one, but I 've tied several more with better eyes. In a real bucktail tying mood. Hopefully I be able to smack a few bass with it in a few days.

Outstanding bucktail fly, Chris! I am really digging your minnow patterns. Beautifully tyed. I love fishing bucktails. They are deadly!!!

Helpful Tip for Painting Eyes - I have found that I get better results with the eyes if I give the head a first coat of clear nail polish and let it dry. This helps smooth out the head before painting the eyes. The pupil and iris with then end up perfectly round. Once the eyes are dried, I then give the whole head a couple coats of clear nail polish.

You're exactly right, Ray. And I knew that...learned it years ago and still screwed it up like a novice! I get so wrapped up in the actually tying that I sometimes get ahead of myself. But your tip is spot on, man! Screwed up the settings on my camera....having a little difficulty in getting good shots...the fly actually looks much better in hand (with the exception of the eyes...the eyes are screwed up in hand or on screen! LOL!)

I love the hair streamers, Jeff. Tying them in 4's for the crappies and smallies. They turn a lot of fish, bro!

Thank you, sir. I have tied a few with pink backs as well. Very happy with how the eyes on those turned out...will try to get a few pics up later this week.
