Hi,

I'm wondering where everyone fishes when they go on a fairly long trip to fish????

Example: I used to live in Central Iowa. Although I fished streams in Iowa and southern minnesota, I usually went out to the Yellowstone area once a year. That is the destination I am asking about. So, my answer would be Henry's Fork of the Snake River.

Thank you!!!!

Once you get on an airplane, the distance doesn't matter very much. For me, a trip to Alaska costs no more than a trip to Montana.

The Kenai R. and the Russian R. in Alaska have been my most ambitious destinations so far.

Freds pond is the farthest I know not many would travel 1200 miles to fish in a pond but hey it is going to be done more often but as for rivers cumberland

There is no such thing as a blank day for a fisherman. It will be saved for him by the white-throated weasel, who watches his fishing from a hole in the wall under which is lying a fish that refused all flies; or by the excitment of identifying insects; or by the apple-bloosom in a nearby orchard; and no one would call that day a blank on which he has seen a king-fisher." -- Arthur Ransome Rod and Line, 1929

Over the last two decades then it would be the Green River KY, The Salmon River NY, and the Juanita in Pa in that order. Now if I take into account that I was born in Idaho and now reside in New Jersey, then it would be the Snake River ID. But then I was only 5 years old the last time I fished that river and it was only an hour or so from the house that I lived in, so I don't think that would count.

South Fork of the Snake below Palisades, in Idaho. The Snake in Jackson Hole is where I really learned to fly fish. I travel from PA to Utah, Wyoming, and Idaho on a reqular basis to fish the Provo, Green, Snake and many other places.

For me, a while back I fished Portland River in Newfoundland for Salmon and many small rivers there for trout.

Took 3 flights to get there but I took the trip of a lifetime to fish at the top of the world on Victoria Island, Nunavut for fresh sea run char. Dying to get back there...

I really hope to one day get the chance to fish the bottom of the world in Patagonia...

I was lucky enough to fish patagonia twice. My youngest son lives in Santiago, Chile so we went twice together.

Good Day,

New Zealand, North Island, multiple rivers including a favorite of Zane Grey, the mighty Tongariro.

Now that I live in Alaska, the river I would travel to fish would be the West Branch of the Penobscot in Maine. (though to be honest, the trip would be more about visiting my daughter and granddaughter)

You just gave me one more reason to visit Nunavut. I've been drooling over that area for years with the intent of big mountain climbing and skiing in a truly remote destination and now you throw out huge char and I have to reconsider the season I want to go. As for my farthest travels I made several trips to BC while I lived in SC fishing various lakes and rivers. Nimpo Lake comes to mind as one of the better known.

I've lived in several different states over the past few years, so the distances to the places I fish have changed a little bit. I guess the furthest destination from my current location would be Gunpowder Falls River in Maryland, or the Pere Marquette in Michigan or the Little River in E. TN. I used to take annual trips with friends to the White River in AR, or the North Fork of the White in MO when I lived in KY. Since I live on the edge of the West now, I try to get annual trips in to the Bighorn River, MT or Shoshone R. and Miracle Mile, WY. The furthest I'm planning on going this year is Oregon, but I might get to fish New Zealand in the near future.

near the mouth of the Rion River in Poti, Georgia (no the OTHER Georgia on the far side of the Black Sea). What's that, like 9 billion miles away, in 1997.
