I built a 9 ft, 5 wt, 4 piece rod from a Lamiglas LHS (or is it LSH?) blank back in the 80's or early 90's. I think it is from their first series of this blank. It has seen so much rough duty bouncing around the bottom of canoes that all the marking are long since rubbed off. Although I own and fish other rods through the years, this beat-up rod and a triangle taper 5-wt somehow matches my casting/fishing style and has become "my" trout rod. I fish it here in Atlanta with nymphs on the Chattahoochee and it double duties as a pretty good dry fly rod on the Tennessee tailraces like the Watauga and South Holston. I fished it with big golden stone drys tight to the bank on the Bow River the end of July and it cast and fought big browns and rainbows perfectly. Also handled small drys well on the Oldman and small streams during the same trip.
I would like to build a rod of similar action in a strong 7-wt or light 8-wt for punching out large nymphs/indicators and stripping sreamers which we did a lot of on the Bow. I don't believe the same blanks are still produced after looking at a Lamiglas website. Can anyone advise me of a blank or finished rod that would have similar action to my old Lamiglas but in a strong 9 ft, 7-wt 4 piece. I would appreciate any experience and advice. Bobby Martin
