Hans:
Could rabbit or snowshoe hare be substituted? I don't think any of the local shops carry Argentinean hare.

Philly m'man.... long time no talk. Sure, hare's ear/mask will work great, or use squirrel.

Use any blend of spiky and soft.

Think I'm going to 'borrow' this pattern recipe for some Brown trout flies this year. Very buggy. Is the dubbing wound on tight and picked out or do you make a loose dubbing wrap? Have you done this with Scud back or similar over the top?

Medium loose dubbed noodle for the abdomen, and lightly brushed with a piece of velcro once the fly has been completed.

Han's -
After doing up a few of these in all olive, I thought I'd try one with a brown thorax, so I spun up a dubbing loop with brown squirrel vs olive. Just curious if you have tried this fly with a different color thorax? It just seems like a simple and really good caddis larva imitation (olive or dual colored!).

Cant wait to fish it!

Will,

So far only with subtle shifts between abdomen and thorax, but like you I have some lined up with olive abdomen and darker grey or brown thorax.

Keep me/us posted on results B)

I do a version of this fly on a #14 hook in Dark brown with a few Pheasant tail fibers for a tail and a copper tungsten bead. It is my go to fly that always produces.

Hans, got my split thread sorted after watching your clip. It was the bit of spinning the bobbin over your finger then letting that spin up the thread. Using it on some soft hackle flies for the 2012 swap. No stopping me now. :) :)

Good man .

It is actually not just over finger (thought that does mostly work too) - I actually pinch the thread below the dubbing, and above the bobbin holder, and then spin it.

Hans

Ok I'll look at that the next time. Cheers
