For all of you guys that know me, you know I dont generally tie trout flies. Hell, I don't generally tie flies smaller then a 2/0. So needless to say this was a bit of a reach for me. Towards the end of the Month I will be up in Traverse City fishing. I originally thought I'd be smallmouth or carp fishing. When I talked to the guide he suggested fishing the Hex Hatch and generally I go with their suggestion. So here we are a couple weeks before I leave and I have to learn how to tie "hex" flies. Attached are some I tied up tonight. I know they aren't perfect, but they are what are! Enjoy.

if you have never fished a hex hatch be prepared for explosive strikes incredible bug activity and overall great time

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading".--Thomas Jefferson

There is no such thing as a blank day for a fisherman. It will be saved for him by the white-throated weasel, who watches his fishing from a hole in the wall under which is lying a fish that refused all flies; or by the excitment of identifying insects; or by the apple-bloosom in a nearby orchard; and no one would call that day a blank on which he has seen a king-fisher." -- Arthur Ransome Rod and Line, 1929

They look great. Just shows if you can tie you can tie. Just a measure of scale.

"What on Earth are you doing for Heavens sake?"

"Out of every 100 men, 10 shouldn’t even be there, 80 are just targets, nine are the real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, for they make the battle. Ah, but the one, one is a warrior and he will bring the others back.” — Heraclitus, 5 B.C

Thanks guys! I have never fished the hex hatch. Not generally a trout guy, but I am really looking forward to it.

One question what size hooks for Hex Flies generally? I went to the fly shop yesterday for "inspiration" and all of theirs looked pretty darn small. Maybe 8's?
