Hey . I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for tying a fly that will look and act like a rubber worm? I fish a pond up here near my house and I used to catch a lot of nice bass on clousers and other baitfish patterns. (There are baitfish in this lake that ball up on the surface and the lm will school up and attack them on top. Looks and sound like stripers busting on top) In this situation if you can get close enough while they are up on top you can fire a clouser in there , let it sink a little, strip back and usually get bit. But it dosent happen every night and lately I think the bass have been getting wise to my baitfish patterns. I used to catch a few every trip now i really have to work for them A friend of mine does great in there with his spinning rod and a texas rigged rubber worm.(At the times when they arent showing on top i mean) Short of just tying one onto the end of my tippet, what are some good worm type patterns to try ? Its hard to beat the good ol rubber worm but I would much prefer to catch them on my fly rod. Been doing a whole lot more freshwater fishing this yr. The striper fly fishing locally (Eastern CT) has really been lousy. averaging about 1 good trip for every 8 skunker trips. Would rather get a bend in the rod with smaller fish than put in all that time and effort for nothing

squirmie

Or you could use rabbit strips....or tie a rubber worm to a hook(or glue it better yet). It will cast fine.

Dr. Harley Reno has a great worm for bass, made from Lion chennile and 4/0 glass beads and a snelled hook, he is well known thru out the fishing world. If you can find him online, he might teach you how, he showed us last month, but I didn't get to see the whole demo at the meeting. what I saw looked pretty easy though and the thing looks absolutely great. Some on here know him and might be able to convince him to do a SBS or video on it.

Thanks for the ideas.I'm still so new at it I get all excited when I catch a fish on something I tied. Think il try the rabbit strips next. Not as much time to tie flies this time of yr. I'm usually fishing if I have any time. But I really enjoy it.
