Good To Be Me!!! Which Float Tube?????

Dear FTF Member,
Support FTF by Subscribing to Hatches Today! 2011 Issue - In Stock
Since 2003 FlyTyingForum.com has grown from a handful of people to 30,000 registered members and has become the largest fly tying community in the world. In 2007 I published the first issue of Hatches because I felt the FTF community could offer a printed magazine that far exceeds anything the fly tying world has ever seen published. To this day, Hatches is largely made up of articles submitted to me by FTF member and FTF will continue to play a large role in the future of Hatches. Hatches truly is a grassroots effort, unlike many of the other publications in circulation that have the backing of large media corporations. The future of both Hatches and FTF depends on the support of FTF members like you. For $7 a year, you not only help ensure that I have the resources needed to be able to offer you all of the features you enjoy today free of charge, you also get 96 pages of pure fly tying awesomeness that is worth the price by itself. Click Here for Subscription Info Thank You -Will

Well, yesterday was my Birthday (after my 50th I have ignored them) and lo and behold what was in the two boxes my Wife presented me with?
One was a catalog printout of the Cabelas Goretex Stretchable Wading Jacket ( on the way she says, ) AND a picture of a Float Tube!
Pick One Out !, she said!!!!!
I think she is trying to make up for the Exercise Bike she bought for me at Christmas. ( I guess I didn't look all that excited Christmas morning, hey who can blame me , if you can't fish with it.................)
Anyway, now I have to "Pick out a float tube." Any Recommendations?????
I weigh about 230 lbs ( hence the Exercise Bike) and would want to be able to carry the tube for moderate distances to water. Also be able to pack in the back of the 4x4 on trips South in a reasonable space.

I am leaning toward a Fat Cat but open to suggestions from those who "Float".
Also I am in S. Ontario so availability is an issue.

Thanks For your help
Cheers

will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it.

Look at the Woodriver

and also the ODC

I have a Wood River Glide Rider II and love it, the V design makes it slow through the water better. thumbsup.gif

I can't give you any help on the specific models, but I do have two "belly boats", one round/full tube and the other u-shaped. the bigest advantage of the round (innertube bladder) is stability.......I prefer the u-shaped, much easier to get in and out of(especially for us wider types)......though not as stable as a round boat, I have never had any problems and I have "kicked' my way around some good sized ponds.......Hope that helps some. I don't know what your rod inventory looks like, but you want longer rods for casting out of the tube.....I generally use 9'ers, but occassionally us an 8' and wind up dragging my backcast quite a bit as the day goes on......

One of our members that is "graced with girth" bought the TU edition of a pontoon. I believe that one is rated for 400 pounds.

I spent some time looking over the construction and features and I can honestly say it is decent boat for the money. (I have owned a few) The only draw-back would be its weight.
I know where they live, I know what they eat. Now it's time to fool them with thread, feathers and roadkill.
