Carnage Drake (gallows variation) SBS

Tying directly to the hook obviates the need for a needle or whole body transplant. Started as a just-screwing-around attempt at a green drake but it turned out well enough. A few pics dropped out and had to re-shoot some of the initial sequence, so you may notice some discrepancies.

hook - Dai Riki 135 #10

thread - UTC 140 olive brown

tail - moose body hair/Uni-stretch brown

abdomen - 1mm foam olive

thorax - dubbing olive

wing - hen hackle tips black

hackle - grizzly dyed olive (Hacklestacker)

mash barb, start thread, tie in a loop of Uni-stretch

River in town had a nice brown drake hatch and it used to bring up some decent fish; bugs are still there although the fish are few and far between these days.

thread - UTC 140 tan

core - 8lb mono

tail - moose body hair

rib - Danville monocord tan

abdomen - 1mm foam tan

thorax - dubbing tan

wing - partridge

hackle - barred cream

Regards,

Scott

Can you give me some background/history/naming of "Carnage". I'm sure it isn't related to the comic books.

Adam Trina, founder of Montana Fly Company, developed the Carnage series of flies; I'm not sure where he got the name from. He forms his bodies on a waxed needle, then attaches it to the hook. I started tying mine that way, but had problems getting consistent, durable flies; adding the mono core and building the body directly on the hook has solved both of those issues.

Regards,

Scott
