I have one of each.  4 piece is great for packing, but the 2 piece is good all around.

here,s a 3 piece telescopic ice rod..i know it,s silly but i just wanted to see if i could make one..it collapses to 15" and extends to 30"..lol.

I have two four piece rods.  The 5 wgt might as well be a two piece, I don't think ever broken it down into four pieces even when traveling.  My 4 piece 8 wgt is sitting on my rod lathe waiting for me to replace the snake guides with single foot spinning guides over the winter.  All the spinning rods I've made are one piece.  Surf rods are two piece.
