The two hander takes some beating and when you go back to hauling you quickly remember why you hate it!!

Those fish all seem real slim, is it just early season before they pack on some winter weight or is there a large head of small fish?

They are river fish so that's normal weight for them, they don't get the fat bellies that lake fish tend to get.

Um, the UK fish tend to look that way if there are too many jacks for the waters prey balance. Tend to find a jack can make a great bait for a big girl.

There's more than enough prey/forage for them in this river, tons of baitfish/perch/minnow/crayfish and other forage. It's just the type of conditions for the river fish (constant current/moving water and weather&growing season etc etc) here tend to make for leaner fish. They are plenty healthy and well feed, just not thick/fat like some of the pike you find in other parts of the world.
