That's a great looking fly!

You can spend a fortune on premium feathers and it doesn't mean you'll tie a perfect fly. It just means you have the materials from a good looking chicken.

Thanks guys! I love tying these type of flies, they give you endless color and hackle combinations. I've made them with many hackle types: snipe, woodcock, different grouse and partirdge, quail, waterfowl, even some common birdfeeder type birds which lose feathers or let the cat get a little too close wink.gif
I do alot of trolling in a huge marsh, that interconnects 10 or so shallow, remote lakes, and these flies are a favorite of the brook trout, and even attract perch, shiners and gaspreau to take. They also are a good change up when the early morning hatches come off and the brookies aren't taking the dry flies you throw anymore. I've also caught a few large browns using this green partridge pattern.

The current contest in American Angler is for soft hackles. Entries must be submitted by mid-May. See the March issue for details. I think your fly definitely should be entered.

I'm going to tie up a few of my other favorite wets this weekend, using some other types of soft hackle. Hopefully i'll be able to get my brothers/dad's camera Monday and post some more pictures. biggrin.gif

Introducing Hatches Magazine

Hatches is an annual publication with a strong devotion to professional writing, beautiful photography and informative articles pertaining to both the artistic and practical aspects of fly tying. Each issue features 13 featured articles that span a massive 96 pages.

I agree with the feedback you have received about Hatches. This is by far the best magazine I have seen that shares the wealth of knowledge without the additional 30 pages of vendor advertisements. I understand they are needed revenue but it is refreshing to see the quality of your articles etc. without having to thumb through all of the ads. I also take three other periodicals that are OK but no where nearly as good as Hatches. I wish you continued success and would like the opportunity to have 3 year subscriptions some time. Thanks again for all of your hard work and excellent presentation in Hatches. Best of luck, I wish you a long life and can't wait until you are recognized as the number one periodical presenting fly fishing knowledge.
