Help
I've never seen someone fly fish before so everything I know is from reading. I think I was doing it right when I went out on monday but I don't know for sure. How do you know you're doing it right and are there any little tricks that make it easier?

any tips for properly mending flyline

If your throwing mends upstream and you are able to do it without moving the last ft of line where it goes into the water then you are doing it right. The amount of times you will mend is dependant on the length of your drift/speed of water. if you can make mends so that your line is not moving near the tip and you drift the entire spot your trying to drift then your good ta go 
you can also throw a mend as you cast before the line comes down on the water to help out, just move your rod hand upstream at the end of the cast as you drop the rod down and that will give you a decent start to mend.

thanks, I think as soon as I get a chance to watch someone else fishing I'm gonna reel my fly in and just take a break from fishing and try and learn all I can. It was pretty tricky trying to keep the fly line from forming drag without moving the fly. Sometimes I would lift the rod tip to try and lift the running line off the water and follow the fly, or flopping the fly line back torward the upstream side of the fly but it just seemd like there had to be an easier way
