About Me

I was born and raised in a small southeastern Connecticut mill town of Taftville,in the city of Norwich with a population of about 40,000 plus or minus. I attended the local parochial school and later attended Norwich Free Academy high school where I graduated in 1966. I was never drafted into the military as my draft number was high enough to keep me out. In 1973 I was hired by a major defence contractor to help design submarines for the US Navy. I worked there until 1979 when the union I was in went out on strike. From ther I ended up moving to Colorado with the girlfriend. We lived in Englewood, Colorado and I worked at another major defence contractor except I was helping to design items for the cargo bay of the Space Shuttles. We eventually got married but like other couples, that didnt last very long and finally the divorce papers were served and then a cheerful goodbye. Thank god it was over.

I began my fishing addiction when the family to trips to the summer camp on Glen Echo Lake in Massachusettes. Being a kid, we fished for sunfish and bull heads using a variety of crawlers, corn, bread and hot dogs! Mmmm bait fishing at its best!

Later on when we were in Colorado (1980-1991), we went with the inlaws on many camping trips we took with them. I was using a spinning rod with a fly and bubble set up. Wow we caught a lot of fish and we had some good times too!

When the recreation department where I worked announced fly tying lessons, I jumped on the opportunity. We all learned the basics from the tools to materials. To me, tying lessons are something all beginners should consider. Lessons shorten the learning curve cosiderably.

Fly tying lessons evolved into fly fishing, which I had never done before. And what a place to learn, the Rocky Mountains. Those were the good days of my fly fishing experience. Trip to the Big Horn, Green River, San Juan river etc.

It all came to an end when I got laid off from the major defence contractor as the work designing satellites for NASA dried up. My dad sent me an application for a job at the other major defence contractor I used to work for in Connecticut and was hired back shortly after submitting my application. That was in 1992 and I've been back home since. I recently celebrated 30 years of service (the company bridged my previous years and then some). My retirement date is around the year 2017 and I'm looking forward to it. By now yore all bored so its time to close this up.

Tight lines,

Norm
