Hi Everyone,

Thank you for visiting NovaScotiaFlyTiers.com the online resource for the Nova Scotia Fly Tier’s Association.

I’ve been tying flies now for close to twenty years and always wanted to share my tying with other tier’s and learn from those that share this hobby with me. It came to me late one night as I was reading the many posts on flytyingforum.com and looking at all the great patterns that the membership contributes to the online database. I thought why not create a club or association for fly tier’s in Nova Scotia. I was so inspired by what one man created and was witness to the success of his venture that I felt compelled to contribute to the fly tying community in my own way, thus the inception of the Nova Scotia Fly Tier’s Association.

My main objective for the association is the preservation and education of the art of fly tying in Nova Scotia. By bringing many talented people together in one central forum it will create a well-balanced sampling of tying talent. Using modern technology I hope to archive and thereby preserve patterns and techniques for decades to come.

It is my hope that this group will grow into something self-sustainable and become a valuable resource and a fun environment for fellow tier’s to further enjoy and pursue the art of fly tying while sharing with, and learning from others. The possibilities are endless, and the opportunities countless. I invite everyone interested in fly tying to consider joining our association and become a part of fly tying in Nova Scotia.

It’s my wish that our association becomes a vehicle to help preserve the heritage of fly tying and at the same time contribute to the sustainability of our natural resources through the many clubs and associations in our beautiful province. Through financial contributions as well as volunteer coordinated efforts in conjunction with those groups I hope to assist them achieve their mandates as well.

Melissa Park



Melissa fishing the “Fork’s Pool” on the Margaree River 2004, Photograph by Damian Lee Welsh Melissa is fairly new to the fly tying and fly-fishing world; she’s being coached by her fiancée, Nova Scotia Fly Tier’s Association President Damian Welsh and is quickly becoming a very capable tier and fly caster!

She’s spent quite a few hours on the Margaree this past season and will be a regular on the river again this season. She even plans to out fish Damian on their fly-fishing Honeymoon in Gaspé, Quebec this August.

Melissa’s favorite color is purple and it’s evident in her own creation below the purple passion.

Melissa is taking the helm this year as the inaugural Secretary Treasurer of the association and looks forward to learning new tying skills from the members of the association

Jesse Samson



I have been an avid fly fisherman and tier for about 6 years now. When I was approached by Damian about the idea of creating a fly tying association for Nova Scotia, I thought it was a great idea and immediately volunteered to create the web page.

I have spent many summers on the lakes and rivers of Cape Breton , most of them being places no sane person would be willing to hike to. I enjoy fishing from my float tube, its actually quite challenging and can be a great workout.
