Fly Type: Attractor Pattern,
Target Species: Pike,
Recommended Region: Central Canada,
Material List: Black synthetic body fur
Black saddle Hackles
Red Grizzly saddle Hackles
Red big fly thread
4/0 Mustad Denny Brauer Flippin Hook
( When you pinch the tiny shank barbs down,
these wide gap hooks are one of the best for pike flies I have found)
Tying Instructions: Tie in the black and red/grizzly saddles for the tail.
Wrap the entire hook shank with thread and back again to the base of the saddles.
Tie on the body fur and bring the thread up to the front.
Cement the threaded hook shank from the base of the saddles to almost the hook eye.
( Use a thick cement and coat heavily)
Now wrap the body fur forward palmering it well
all the way to the eye. Tie off and spin one big red grizzly saddle at the front.
Finish head and it's done.
Presentation Tips: Fished near the surface over weed beds and rocky areas.
The pike see it from below so it's dark color stands out against the skylight above like a sore thumb.
Sometimes black in this way works very well.
