Kenai Lantern

tied by aufevermike
Fly Type: Salmon Flies,
Target Species: General Salmon,
Recommended Region: Northwest US,
Material List*:
I went into Jo-Ann Fabric to look for some wire and plastic ribbing for some maggots. What I found was this plastic lacing colored with metallic flash down the middle. It came in a bundle package with several different colors, like clear, black red, green, blue, ect. It's a bit thick but I think it makes some cool looking flies. This one I named the Kenai Lantern cause it is modeled after the Dean River Lantern. It can be made in green, Chartreuse, or Red. the original called for black hair for the tail but I used black Krystal Flash. the hackle must match the color of the body.
*Materials with links give you direct access to that product at the J. Stockard store.
Tying Instructions: Match thread with color of body and hackle. cover shank and then with head cement. Add about 20-25 strands of black krystal flash. Now tie in Rib material. Bring thread near to the head. Wrap ribbing spiralin leaving a enough space for the hackle and head. Tie off and clip excess material. Tie in hackle and wrap around hook 3 0r 4 times then tie off and clip. With the thread wrap the hackle so the fibers point towards the rear. Whip finish then add hard as nails to head.
