The Spudler Minnow

tied by spflugradt
Fly Type: Attractor Pattern,
Target Species: Freshwater Bass,
Recommended Region: Central US,
Imitation: General Baitfish,
Material List:
Rabbit Strip. Deer Hair, Silicone Legs, Flash, Lead wire,
Tying Instructions: Hook: Mustad 37187 #6
Thread: UTC 210 denier or Uni 3/0
Weight: 6turns of .30 lead wire (this is the most important part other than the head of the fly this and the head is what will make it suspend in the water)
Tail and body: Rabbit straight cut zonker strip
Wing: Something sparkly
Legs: 1/4 of a full tab of silicone legs (fold ends together and cut in half then fold sides together and cut the tab in half) they will be tied in by the tab end with the cut end of the legs facing the eye of the hook, then pull them back over the hook and hold down with a piece of wire so you can tie the head of the fly.
Head: Spun deer hair One clump not packed but sun to flared a nice collar, a second clump not packed flared to be trimmed to form the rest of the head. Both should be about the size of a pencil and brushed free of underfur.

I hope you like this on it's one of my favorites and is very close to my heart in terms of what it does and why, it took me a long time to get it just right and to be able to tie them consistently so they will all preform alike.
Presentation Tips: This was a long time in the development, the fly if tied correctly will suspend in the water column, and when stripped in with hard tugs on the line followed by a short pause will actually turn back around on itself. Since I started playing with this idea and concept several years ago it has become one of my best producing bass flies far and away.
