Tying Instructions: Step #1: Tie the thread wrapped around the hook.
Step #2: Cut 1” – 1½” inch of the lead wire and wrapped it around the hook and double layer at the thorax region of the fly. Leave a bare shank at the eye of the hook.
Step #3: Wrap the Black thread covering over the lead.
Step #4: Tie in a pair of the Black Goose biots, one on each side at the back of the hook. Tail length should be around ½ shank length long. Trim the tails at the tie in point.
Step #5: Dub the thread with the Natural brown dubbing to form a tapered rope. Wrap the dubbed thread towards the hook eye, to form a tight tapered body.
Step #6: Cut the thin Black foam to a shape of a cone around the length of 2” – 2½” inch long.
Step #7: Tie the narrow part of the foam onto the top of the hook shank dubbing of the tail.
Step #8: Use the thread to make the body segment of the foam onto the hook shank towards the hook eye. Leaving the balance of the foam in front of the hook eye.
Step #9: Bring the thread back to the 2nd segment of the head.
Step #10: Tie the Black rubber legs on each side of the segment (length around ½” inch).
Step #11: Use a fine needle to poke a pair of holes at the bottom part of the balance foam above the hook eye. Then use the needle to pull the Turkey biots through both of the holes (as the Stone fly antenna).
Step #12: Tie the end of the Turkey biots secure onto the 1st segment of the stone fly head.
Step #13: Pull the foam backward and use the thread to tie the head segment.
Step #14: Whip finish it and add a drop or two of the head cement to the thread. Now it is done and the Stone fly is complete.
