Target Species: Trout,
Recommended Region: Northwest US,
Imitation: Caddis Flies,
Material List*:
Tail: Teal Flank
thread: Black 8/0
rib: light copper wire
body: Peacock Herl
hackle: partridge
Hook: 075 Dia-Riki (standard wet fly hook) 10-18
*Materials with links give you direct access to that product at the J. Stockard store.
Tying Instructions: Lay down a base of thread and then tie in 4 long teal flank fibers for the tail. Tie in copper rib material, then tie in 2 to 4 peacock herls and wind forward to within eye width from the eye of the hook. Counter-wind the copper rib and tie off at same location as the herl. Tie in partridge hackle and wrap 2 turns or less, tie off and whip finish.
Presentation Tips: I use this fly as a dropper behind a dry pattern. The long tail becomes very animated by anything that interupts a dead drift, be it cross currents or swinging the fly set up before lifting to re cast. Its a great dropper for mid day float fishing.
