Current Tags for This Pattern / Brown / dry / Grizzly / Pheasant / PT Dry![]() tied by J Desjardins Fly Type: Dry, Target Species: Trout, Recommended Region: Northeast US, Imitation: Mayflies, Material List*: Hook: dry fly #12-18, a#12 was used here (I couldn't find dry fly hooks any smaller at home). Thread: brown to match pheasant tail Tail: Pheasant tail fibers Wing: Mallard breast feather Body: Pheasant tail fibers (a separate clump from tail) Hackle: light dun or grizzly *Materials with links give you direct access to that product at the J. Stockard store. Tying Instructions: Lay a base of thread along the hook shank then tie in 4-8 pheasant tail fibers as a tail. Bind them down to the hook up to where the wing will go and then cut the excess off. Tie in the wing, stand it up and split it in two. Wrap back to the rear of the hook and tie in a clump of 4-6 Pheasant tail fibers by their tips. Wrap the thread to the base of the wing, coat the abdomen with super glue (for strength), then wind the PT fibers forward and tie off. Add the hackle and wind 2 turns behind the wings & 2-3 turns in front then finish off. Presentation Tips: I've used this pattern with great success as a prospecting fly on small streams. It can also be tied Wulff style for pocket water fishing, and for use as the dry in a dry & dropper system. | Other Flies Tied by J Desjardins
