Rib: Small gold oval tinsel
Body: Red dubbing or wool. In this example, SLF dubbing was used.
Hackle: Pheasant rump, tied in by tip and folded over as it is wrapped.
Tying Instructions: Materials are applied in the order in which they are listed. The original Carey special used peacock herl for the body, and this is still one of the most effective lake patterns. Other body materials include wool, chenille or dubbing.
Presentation Tips: Cast out, let sink, retrieve in short strips. Or slowly troll on a full-sinking line.
