Olive Spanish Fly

tied by Ed Gallop
Fly Type: Dry,
Target Species: Trout,
Recommended Region: Other,
Imitation: Mayflies,
Material List:
Hook: Dry
Tail and Hackle: Coq de Leon
Body: Thread or silk (ribbed with black thread)

Tying Instructions: Required tool with drilled hole or vise jaws (use cheap spare Indian made vise with soft jaws for this method only). Clamp hook eye in vise or tool with drilled hole to hold hook eye firm without crushing with jaws. It allows you to taper the body up to the tool and create a flat body ending at the point of hackle tie in. Tie in hackle and wrap against the wall like body. The hackle will stand up straight. Build the head to hold hackle back against the wall (easy). Note this fly has oversized hackle on purpose (old style Spanish Flies) and the tipper is tied in under the body and out at the hackle, or head. You can trim off the tippet if it gets old and use the hook eye. Also, you can trim an inverted "V" from the bottom hackle. Lays nicely on the water. Interesting style and challenge.
Presentation Tips: Use as you would any dry fly.
