Rabbit Fur Winter's Hope

tied by fishingbobnelson
Fly Type: Attractor Pattern,
Target Species: Steelhead,
Recommended Region: Northwest US,
Material List:
#3 Blue Heron Spey Hook
6/0 wine UNI thread
Lagartun Oval X-Strong Tinsel
LagartunFlat Metalic Medium Tinsel
Black/Orange over Yellow Tigher Barred Rabbit Strips
Purple and Silver Doctor Strung Rooster Saddle Hackle

Tying Instructions: Cast on thread about a quarter inch behind the eye. Wrap to rear stopping at the start of the slope. Tie in a length of the oval tinsel and wrap thread to tie in point. Add the flat tinsel and wrap it in even wraps to where the oval tinsel was tied in. Then wrap the flat tinsel back to the front and tie off. Cut a piece of rabbit strip a little longer that the hook length, strip the fur off the front eighth inch and secure. (you can add a drop of Zap-a-Gap if you want.) Holding the rabbit on the top of the hook make even turns through the fur with the oval tinsel, secure the tinsel at the front. Take one blue and one purple hackle feather and match up the tips with the purple in front. Tie in and make three or four wraps with both feathers at the same time. Build a small head, whip finish and coat the head with Hard as Nails or other strong head cement.
Presentation Tips: Swing, and strip retrieve.
