the genesis of a new fly tied by Ronn LucasFly Type: Salmon Flies
, Material List:
Here's a shot of the genesis of a new fly. It shows the bead which was selected first, the wing, second, the hook, third and the throat. I have been trying to tie a fly with a bead right at the head and so far I have come to within about 1/8" on another fly. The problem (challenge really) is that the bead has bulk and bulk just behind a tie in point for a wing will usually kick the wing up. Not a good thing. With this bead I ground the top and bottom front maybe 3/8" with a taper down to 0" at the very end. I wanted to see if I could set a wing in front of it, so I just temporarily set everything up on the hook and built the area up in front of the wing. I believe it will work! That's a good thing! LOL
It is this kind of thing that I really enjoy about tying these things and trying to do something different with each fly. That gives me a challenge every time I chuck up a hook.
Stay tuned for more on this fly. It should be done soon. Well, a couple days because work beckons now.
