tied by Ronn Lucas Fly Type:Salmon Flies, Material List: This fly was tied by Paul Belfanti who is a member of the fly tying club that meets at my place. Paul was by yesterday and he surprised me with this fly. It is his first attempt at a free style beaded salmon fly and I confess that I was stunned when I saw it. The reason is that the bead is a hand made lampglass bead that is called a lentil bead because it is flattened. I have not in the past considered using a lentil bead because of the difficulty of placing a wing when the bead is positioned with the flat sides showing as Paul did here. One could call this fly a beaded Matuku (the correct term for the wing that is erroneously called Matuka) style fly but I think it fits the free style salmon fly just fine.
