Hook, double or trebble salmon hook
Thread, white 8/0
Tag, flat silver tinsel
Rib, medium oval silver tinsel
Body, in halfs, red then black floss
Wing, grey squirel tail and golden pheasant tippet
Collar, oarnge cock hackle
Head, red paint and sally hansens
Tying Instructions: Tie on tag then rib, attach red floss and cover half of the shank. attach black floss and cover the rest. attach rib, then take a small clump of grey squrriel tail and divide it. Attach one clump on top of shank and one under neath. The tips should extend just past the bends of the hooks. Take a tippet feather and trim the base so that the ends are just longer than the shank. Attach them over the top of the wing. Tie on a hackle by the stem take three turns. Use the thread to lay the hackle barbs back.
Presentation Tips: Scottish salmon angler Alistar Gowans developed this fly. It is very effective and probally the number one fly for atlantic salmon today, The orriginal was tied just oarnge but red yellow and purple are good colours (According to The Fly-Tying Bible by Peter Gathercole)
