Hook: TMC 2457 or DaiRiki 139 size 10 to 18
Thread: 6/0 Smoky Gray Unithread
Antenna and tail: a few fibers of light sow bug Sow-Scud dubbing ( No. 259)
Weight: 8 to 10 turns of .020 lead wire
Shell back; 1/8 " latex scud back
Body: same color dubbing
Eyes: 10 lb test Maxima melted to form eye
Note: other colors that are effective Grey,Ginger Light olive ,olive tan, tan, light brown
Tying Instructions: select a few dubbing fibers and lie them alng the shank of the hook leaving some extend past the eye and bend of the hook. Twist on 8 to 10 turns of lead wire. I try to keep the wire far enough back from the hook eye to tie off the shell back and eyes. tie in the shell back at rear of the hook. form a nice tappered noodle of dubbing and twist using a dubbing loop . Dont twist too tight. work the dubbing noodle forward giving the body a tappered form. keeping tension on shell back pull over the top and tie off trim and then add the mono eyes using a figure 8. whip finish behind the eyes , using your bodkin pick out some fibers on the bottom side to give the fly a leggy effect.
