Stockard store. Tying Instructions: Instructions: Tie the tail and wing in first then tie in the stem of the hackle and also leave upright. Stack the deer hair for the body to even the tips then trim the butts to an equal length. Tie the deer hair in at the eye of the hook tips first winding the thread to the eye of the hook then back to the wing post. Next, place fingers at the eye of the hook and fold the hair backwards over the shank, grasping the hair with your other hand draw it back. This will now leave the other hand free to take the bobbin and anchor the hair with two or three wraps in front the wing post. Then wrap the thread diagonally backward over the body to the desired link. Make several wraps here and do the same thing forward making two complete passes over the body to provide adequate strength. Being careful not to cut of the tails trim the butts leaving an 1/8" past the wraps. Then proceed with wrapping the hackle and tie off where the initial wraps were placed to anchor the body and cement the wrap at that point. Comment: This fly pictured is for the Hexagenia in size #4 but can easily be tied for a variety of mayflies by simply varying the colors. The head of this style is particularly nice because materials never interfere with the eye of the hook. | Other Flies Tied by fishinlk
