Fergusons Nondescript

tied by Alex_F
Fly Type: Wet,
Target Species: Trout,
Recommended Region: General Europe,
Imitation: Caddis Flies,
Material List:
Hook: Partridge Cpt Hamilton or similar # 10 - 14

Silk: Brown

Body: Rear 3/4 natural Rabbit guard hairs. Front 1/4 hot orange Seals fur.

Rib: Oval gold tinsel.

Wing: Rolled slips of Woodcock Primary.

Hackle: Woodcock lesser or marginal wing coverts, depending on fly size.
Tying Instructions: Where the body is concerned, only rib the rear 3/4 (Rabbit fur part). Trap and trim ribbing then dub on the Seals fur for the remaining 1/4. This lets the Seals fur straggle and adds to the "halo" effect of the Woodcock/ fur blend.

For the wing, select and roll two strips (about 1/4 to 3/8th inch for a size 10 hook) tie them in and lay them in a Spey or delta wing style. Make sure they look scruffy/ buggy.

For the hackle use Lesser wing coverts for larger flys and marginal coverts for smaller flys. Two or three turns.

Presentation Tips: Can be used anywhere on a three fly cast or singly. A brilliant top dropper fly when Sedge/Caddis are hatching, also effective for Lake Olives oddly enough.
