Connemara Black (varient)

tied by Alex_F
Fly Type: Wet,
Target Species: Trout,
Recommended Region: General Europe,
Material List:
Hook: Size 8 - 14 Partridge Cpt Hamilton or similar. This one tied on a size 10 Partridge CS7.

Silk: Black.

Tail: Golden Pheasant crest.

Body: 90% black, 10% dark claret Seals fur. Original fly black Seal

Rib: Oval silver.

Wing: Bronze Mallard.

Hackle1: Three full turns of Greenwells Hen dyed medium olive then over dyed with tea. Original, black Cock beard.

Hackle2: European Jay barred covert tied beard, spread to mix with under hackle.
Tying Instructions: The Seal mix is just to give it a nice "halo". I usually try to avoid solid colours.

The hackle is dyed to produce a deep olivey brown at the tips which works very well on the lakes/lochs I fish. It also blends nicely with the bronze Mallard.

Tie larger for Sea Trout.
Presentation Tips: Middle or point on a three fly cast.
