Old Blue Dun

tied by Soft-hackle
Fly Type: Wet,
Target Species: Trout,
Material List:
Old Blue Dun

Hook: Standard wet fly 12-16

Thread: Yellow

Hackle: Blue Dun hen

Ribbing: Yellow button hole twist or size A sewing silk, doubled.

Body: Blue dun rabbit

Tying Instructions: Tie on the hen hackle by the stem so the point is out, over the eye. Wrap the thread down the shank and tie on the ribbing thread. Tie on the dubbing brush, wrap the tying thread back to just behind the hackle forming a slightly tapered underbody as you wrap. Wrap the body with the brush first followed by the ribbing, tieing off and trimming each after it's wrapped. Wrap the hackle-2 turns-tie off; trim excess. While holding the hackles back with the thumb and forefinger of the non-tying hand, slightly overwrap the hackles to hold them in position. Form the head; whip finish, and add cement.
Presentation Tips: Fish using the Leisenring lift, on the swing, as a wet fly, upstream or downstream in the surface or just below.
