Chartreuse Mitey Mite

tied by chemprof2001
Fly Type: General Saltwater,
Target Species: Redfish,
Recommended Region: Southeast US,
Imitation: General Baitfish,
Material List: Hook: #2-4 Mustad 3407 or 34007
Underbody: Silver metallic plastic canvas yarn or similar flat braid
Ovebody: Clear chartreuse plastic lanyard
Wing: Fibers of desired colors from mylar dusters (in this case chartreuse and yellow)
Thread: Yellow
Tying Instructions: This is a modifiction of the original Mitey Mite pattern (given below) using all materials found in craft and dollar stores. Attach tying thread and wind to near the bend of the hook. Attach a length of clear chartreuse lanyard, and then attach silver metallic plastic canvas yarn or other flat silver braid. Wind the silver braid forward and tie off, trimming excvess forming the underbody. Then wind the clear chartreuse lanyard over the silver braid to form the overbody. With the hook in the vise so the hook point is up, tie in the wing, a clump of yellow mylar fibers from a mylar feather duster topped with chartreuse mylar fibers from a mylar feather duster. form a neat head, whip finish and apply head cement. This fly can obviously be adapted to many color combinations using clear uncolored lanyard and various colored braids, with complimentary wing colors.

Original Mitey Mite Pattern
Hook: #2-4 Mustad 3407 or 34007
Underbody: Gold diamiond braid
Ovebody: Clear brown larva lace
Wing: Orange bucktail
Thread: Orange or brown
Presentation Tips: The fly can be presented as a small baitfish or as a shrimp imitation. It's one of those flies that sort of looks like a baitfish, sort of looks like a small shrimp. Very simple to tie, and effective. I put redfish as the target species, but just about everything down here the salt in southwest Louisiana will take a swipe at this.

Introducing Hatches Magazine

Hatches is an annual publication with a strong devotion to professional writing, beautiful photography and informative articles pertaining to both the artistic and practical aspects of fly tying. Each issue features 13 featured articles that span a massive 96 pages.

I agree with the feedback you have received about Hatches. This is by far the best magazine I have seen that shares the wealth of knowledge without the additional 30 pages of vendor advertisements. I understand they are needed revenue but it is refreshing to see the quality of your articles etc. without having to thumb through all of the ads. I also take three other periodicals that are OK but no where nearly as good as Hatches. I wish you continued success and would like the opportunity to have 3 year subscriptions some time. Thanks again for all of your hard work and excellent presentation in Hatches. Best of luck, I wish you a long life and can't wait until you are recognized as the number one periodical presenting fly fishing knowledge.
