Butterfly, Green Butt

tied by mikehemming
Fly Type: Salmon Flies,
Target Species: Atlantic Salmon,
Recommended Region: Eastern Canada,
Imitation: ,
Material List:
Red Hackle Fibres for tail
Green floss, wool or stretch floss for butt
4 or 5 Peacock herl for body
White goat tail for wing
Brown hackle
Black head
Tying Instructions: Tie in red hackle fibres for tail
Tie in Green floss, wool or stretch floss for butt, I prefer the stretch floss
Tie in the peacock herls and wrap for body
I wrap the tying thread back over the body and counter wrap back to the head to reinforce the delicate herl
Tie in the goat hair as a wing, split in half and wrap to position backwards at a 45 degree angle and slightly up.
Tie in brown hackle and wrap sparsely, one wrap behing the wing, two in front.
Presentation Tips: I use this all season (Apr to Oct) when I want to change things up a bit. Good for salmon or trout, hooks in quick water or slow. In slow water I tend to pull the fly in small tugs to give the wings the illusion of swimming.
