Tying Instructions: Start this fly by cutting a long strip of medium brown chenille. Tie it down behind the hook eye and cover it with thread wraps till you reach the point above the barb. Cut a small sized bunch of deer hair and stack the tips even (about the diameter of pencil). Tie it to the hook and tighten the tension on the thread to spin the hair around the hook. Cut off the ends (excess) that were not stacked close to the tips (extending towards the hook eye). Repeat this process 4-5 times making sure to even the tips of the bunch of hair you are tying in with the hair already on the hook shank. Also use a hair packer to keep the hair tight together. When you reach the 2/3 mark on the hook shank, tie in two ears cut from deer skin.Wrap them with thread so that they lie flat up again the deer hair you have tied on the hook. Keep spinning deer hair on to the hook but now do not stack or clip the uneven ends of the deer hair since it all will be trimmed down later. When you get to the front of the hook give the hair one more tight packing and form a small head. Whip finish and cement. Take a sharp razor or scissors and cut the head into a cone shape up to where the ears meet the stacked deer hair. Cut the bottom of the body flat a 1/4 inch from the hook shank. For added endurance apply a little head cement to the fly's head end acostic eyes. To finish the fly take a lighter and melt the end of the chenille tail to a point.
