Futzer's Blue Damsel Adult

tied by Futzer
Fly Type: Dry,
Target Species: Trout,
Recommended Region: Northwest US,
Imitation: Dragonflies,
Material List:
Hook: TMC206BL
Thread Uni 8/0 black, grey, or blue
Body:Dyed braided leader and Purple pearl Crinkle flash and GITD flash. 1.5" long
Eyes: Peacock plastic bead chain eyes
Wings: 2 full White CDC feathers trimmed, 3 strands Purple pearl flash
Thorax: Blue closed cell foam, 0.065" thick

I tie these in blue, olive, tan, red, and gray.
Tying Instructions: Cut a thin piece of blue closed cell foam and tie in at the hook eye, then tie in the peacock bead chain eyes. I use a lighter to melt off the tag ends of the core thread on the eyes, carefully. It gives a dark pupil. I use figure eights to secure the eyes. Using a tapestry needle, (blunt ended). I thread a strand of purple pearl flash and a strand of GITD flash and run it up through the center of the braided leader body. It gives it some sparkle under the braid. My photos do not show the pearl flashes color real well, but it is the key to this fly being as good as it is. Melt the rear end of the body carefully with a lighter and form the melted part into a football shaped end with slightly wet fingertips. Tie in the body, about 1.5 inches long. Trim 2 full sized just slightly shorter than the body length; white CDC feathers trimmed narrow like a Damsel's wing, tie them in with figure eights, Tie in 3 strands of Purple pearl crinkle crystal flash over top the CDC to give the wing some flash. Pull the foam over the eyes and secure behind the wing, trim at an angle, and tie in front of the wing to secure the foam, and whip finish. Apply a small drop of head cement to the whip finish.
Presentation Tips: I fish this mostly on still water, esp from a pontoon, cast towards the bank, let it sit motionless for a few seconds then give it a few twitches, letting it sit between.
