Fly Type: Terrestrials & Midges,
Target Species: Panfish,
Recommended Region: Central US,
Imitation: Ants/Beetles,
Material List:
Hook: Daiichi #1550, size 12
Thread: Uni Thread 8/0, black
Body: Coffee Bean
Legs: Saddle hackle, brown
Tying Instructions: Using a file or other similar tool, cut a small groove lengthwise on the flat side of the bean, just deep enough to set the hook shank in. Coat each side of the bean with Hard As Nails or other similar sealant. Lay threadbase on shank and detatch thread. Glue bean to the top of the shank. Reattatch thread at head, spin hackle fibers in dubbing loop, and wrap along bottom of bean, between bean and hook bend, and then back to the head. Tie off. (I also put glue down to hold dubbing loop secure to underside of bean. Trim hackle fibers to desired length.

The original pattern from a British magazine used a very course dubbing for the legs. Having none course enough, I chose the hackle.
Presentation Tips: As coffee beans float, this one will float, although not overly high. Plunk them down with a splash and waith for the swirl.
