Bruce's (Whillock) Beetle

tied by BruceC
Fly Type: Terrestrials & Midges,
Target Species: Trout,
Recommended Region: Northeast US,
Imitation: Ants/Beetles,
Material List:
Hook: TMC 100 (5212 for longer body profile)
Thread: Uni 8/0 in a color to match your beetle.
Antennae: Peccary tips
Legs: Japanese Nymph Legs
Underbody: Dry fly dubbing of choice.
Body: Foam covered with Swiss Straw and waterproof marker.

Note: This is basically Paul Whillock's beetle pattern with a few, very minor variations to make it a little easier to tie. I've added a coating of brushed superglue (CA adhesive) over the swiss straw to make this fly truly bullet proof. Other than the antennae, which will most likely leave after the first fish, this fly will last for a good long time.

One of the flies pictures uses a small hackle, trimmed with small barb stubs left in place for the antenna. I sometimes use this to replace the Peccary tips.
Tying Instructions: In order of above list.
Presentation Tips: Fished as a typical beetle pattern.
