"Simple" Caddis

tied by rstout
Fly Type: Deer Hair,
Target Species: Trout,
Recommended Region: Northwest US,
Imitation: Caddis Flies,
Material List:
Dry fly hook size 10 to 20
Thread (color and size of your choice) I use 8/0 Deer Hair (color of your choice)
Tying Instructions: Start wrapping thread at eye of hook.
Wrap back about 1/8th of an inch.
Build a small ridge with the thread at this point.
A drop of head cement at this point holds the thread in place.
The ridge prevents the deer hair from sliding back.
Move thread to midway between ridge and eye.
Tie in a clump of deer hair to the fullness you want.
You can stack or spin the deer hair. Your choice.
Whip finish and trim head.
I always leave a head of deer hair as you can see in the picture.
Presentation Tips: Anywhere there are caddis hatches. I cast upstream and let it dead drift. I then skate it across the surface at the end of the drift.
