Foam Gurgler

tied by pennscreekrules
Fly Type: Poppers/Sliders,
Target Species: Freshwater Bass,
Material List*:
hook: mustad 37187 or sub.
thread: 3/0 Monocord
tail: four saddle feathers, crystal flash/Flashabou, marabou, saddle hackle palmered
underbody: 2-3 webby saddle feathers palmered
overbody: foam
*Materials with links give you direct access to that product at the J. Stockard store.
Tying Instructions: 1. Tie in 4 saddle feathers, then flash material and a tuft of marabou on each side of hook shank. Tie in saddle feather and palmer forward 3-4 wraps.
2. Tie in a piece of foam on the top and bottom of hook. 2mm works best-gives a better bowl shape when you tie it off. I used 3mm here.
3. Tie in 2-3 webby saddle feathers palmer forward. Stroke barbs to each side of hook shank and pull the pieces of foam forward and tie off.
Presentation Tips: Add a small split shot 12-18" up your leader to cause the fly to dive and gurgle. Or without weight, it acts more like a slider or popper.
