Thread : Black 6/0 or 80. Tail : Cree hackle fibers. Abdomen : Black tying thread. Rib : Fine gold wire. Thorax : Black Hare's Ear dubbing. Tying Instructions: (1) Tie in thread at front of hook using six (6) turns of thread. Trim the loose end of the tying thread. (2) Tie in the fine gold wire and cover it with closed thread wraps to the rear of hook shank about half way down the bend of the hook. Keep the wire on top of the hook shank as it gets covered with the tying thread. (3) Tie in a bundle of Cree hackle fibers for the tail. (4) Use the tying thread to wrap an even abdomen with closed wraps of the thread. Wrap the abdomen forward to the tie in spot of the fine gold wire. (5) Wrap the fine gold wire for the rib over the abdomen using five to six open wraps of the wire and tie off just behind the tie-in location of the wire. (6) Cover a one to two inch section of tying thread with dubbing wax. Place a very small amount of Black Hare's Ear dubbing on the tying thread. Take two wraps of the dubbing, then remove any excess dubbing. (7) Tie in two Starling body feathers, allowing the dubbing to seperate the feathers into two wings. (8) Cover a one to two inch section of tying thread with dubbing wax. Place a very small amount of Black Hare's Ear dubbing on the tying thread, then finish wrapping a fairly full thorax over and ahead of the tie-in location of the wings. (9) Whip finish with six (6) wraps of tying thread and caot the head with head cement to finish the fly. You can also add a Brass or Gold bead as a first tying step for a Bead Head variation of this fly and to add extra weight if you like. Presentation Tips: Fish on a dead drift or as a dropper under a dry fly. Use dry fly floatant if you want to keep the fly at or near the water surface. | Other Flies Tied by KYratchethead
