Tube Bomber TM

tied by fishmadman
Fly Type: Salmon Flies,
Target Species: Atlantic Salmon,
Recommended Region: Eastern Canada,
Imitation: Caddis Flies,
Material List: Deer body hair - quality Hackle - Thin tube - Silicone tubing for rod rest - Tail and wing made from calf tail..

Tying tread and rib Fireline 0.04 mm

Tying Instructions: Start heating the end of the tube near a naked flame herby creating a small collar on the tube. This collar will prevent the hook-guard coming of during casting

Fix a  X-small tube to a needle (Here a 1,4 mm tube) Tie down a hook-guard. In this case silicon tube. Tie in a length of 0,04 Fireline to use as rib later in the process

Tie in a bunch of hair from a quality calf tail. Ad strands of mylar (The mylar strands will help you keep track of the fly in low light and fast water)

Tie in two quality hackles. Add yet another bobbin-holder. This time with 0.04 Fireline to use in the following job. Add drops of super-glue to the tie-down of wing and tail

Tie down sections of deer body hair. Make sure to tighten each section securely with the Fireline

Ad all sections and finish up the Fireline with a couple of hitches

Trim the deer body hair to a cigar-shaped style with your scissors or a razor blade. Ad a little hump of fly tying tread to make the wing stand slightly upwards

Run the hackles down the deer hair body securing that the stem of the hackle gets inside the deer hair structure. Run the Fireline ribbing upwards through the body and hackles. Secure and whip-finish.

Trim any excess material and ad a drop of super-glue to the head

Ad a tiny wide gape hook - and a salmon river...

Presentation Tips: Here you will find our tying instructions for Bombers tied on tube that we have used sins 1995 with great success.
When tying salmon dry flies on tube you will find that you can create huge dry flies with no significant weight

Fly will stay high on the water...something that we have found to be very important when fishing for Atlantic salmon

You will also get a fly that will stay afloat much longer due to low weight even big Bombers and other dry flies like The Monster Tube Caddis TM or Stone fly imitations will be feather light - compared to the same fly tied on a big iron.

We recommend a short shank wide gape hook at the end of the fly...This will give you a perfect hook-up. You can change to single, double or treble hooks according to your choice or the rules of the river keeper.

When hooking up with salmon the tube-fly will disconnect from the hook and run up the leader. This will equalize any leverage problem that otherwise could have occur using a fly tied on a big iron.

When the hook is disconnected from the fly it is also much easier to de-hook the fish while the fly stay unharmed above the jaws of the fish

In case your fishing on catch and release water the smaller hooks that you can use on these flies are less damaging to the fish than that of the big irons

Dry fly regards
