Thanks. Never saw or looked for evidence of critters inside the plant. Never thought of it.

We had a deck garden last year. Tomatoes were great. Squash would get to the size of my index finger and rot. Never could figure out what went wrong.

Sign in gift shop- Dog hair sticks to everything but the dog.

Tennessee record green sunfish is 1 lb., 4 oz. but no length given. Caught in North Cross Creek, where that is, in June, 1981.

That is your usual outstanding work. I look at the cards and they tell me there will be more scratches on the reel seat. Photos of the trip would be appreciated.

Just ordered another spool of Anglatech 6 wt. DT line from Amazon. Got some for my grandson's first combo. Casts great. I had a Cortland 333 D weight (now equal to 7 wt.) level. Tossed it. Duh. It was still in perfect condition for being over 45 years old.

My father always said the only dumb question is the one not asked. We learn by asking. If I want to know something...I ask my wife. I have a bamboo rod that is about 54 years old and a fiberglass rod that is about 58 years old. Still fish them. Bamboo was restored from directions and suggestions by Carlin.

Too late for me. Was at a grandson's baseball game several years ago when we mentioned River Monsters. It was a mass reaction of all the people, men and women, who watched the show. When I win the lottery, I'm going to get the complete set of all his shows.

Interesting question. Basically, I tie on hackle and really don't follow guidelines except what might will catch fish. I also trip the bottom so the dry fly will sit flat. Rather have too much than not enough.

Interesting story. Navy veterans have said that JFK should have left the area at full speed to avoid other ships. Their opinion was he should have been court-martialed.

A teacher was always getting on Billy for being late for school each day. "Teacher, Daddy takes me out each morning for a two mile swim in the ocean." "Isn't that a long way to swim for a little boy?" "No, ma'am. The hardest part is getting out of the sack."

Many thanks for the replies. Been away for waaay to long. Have a grandson who will be getting a fly rod outfit for his birthday in a couple of days. Have another grandson who will be on the list soon when he sees what his cousin got. Will go through my materials to see what I have.

What do you tiers use for a soft hackle fly? I see partridge is used a lot but asking if there are some alternatives. TIA.

Howdy! Been off longer than I care to remember. The fly can be made in a variety of ways. I was shown this fly when I first started fishing here in SE Tennessee. A member of the local TU chapter showed me how to tie it. He used red feathers but i found the feathers were brittle. I "borrowed" some red yarn from the wife's craft inventory. I just use a bit as a tail. Don also fishes it with grey hackle as a dry fly curing certain hatches. Can't remember what for now. He also started to overwrap the herl with thread so it lasts a bit longer after getting chewed by several trout. Know this thread is ancient but flies and fish have no calendar.

Back to the forum. I the the BHP with a tuft of red yarn. Last longer than feathers. One of the vest flies...bar none!

Used to frequent this forum when I was heavily involved with the Rod Building forum. I got out of building about two years ago. Found my "niche" but also found it would be a full time deal. I didn't retire to work again. I'm now into writing magazine articles and photography. I'm presently working/researching for an article on fly fishing. I feel this forum and a couple of others will be a gold mine of information. Thanks and tight lines with screaming drags!

Good to help out those boys. Did you, by any chance, try and wet a line that particular place. It would be worth a couple of bucks or a Happy Meal to pay for their guide service. Been gone for a long time and back here with an interest in tying and flinging fur and feathers, especially for carp.
-
Hmmm. Never thought about carp.

Welcome. I live in SE TN and would move to a colder climate due to asthma and allergies.

How did you start tying flies? We all have a story . . .
skeet3t replied to Triplef's topic in The Fly Tying Bench
My son and I joined Trout Unlimited and found that tying flies was almost as much fun as catching trout on flies. We never tied more than a half dozen for our home waters. I still have the vice and have added some items in the past 23 years. -
Very nice and great design. Put wheels on it and you won't have to carry it.

Actually, Mr. Callaway started with a winery in Rancho Bernardo, CA. Then he got the idea that he could make a quality golf club.

No. I used to go by RBR occasionally. Looked "bassy" with all the lilly pads, etc. Good luck on the stripers!

I'm with phg on this. Saw one drop into the Hiwassee a couple of years ago. Floated out of sight and not even touched. I watched for several minutes to see if I needed to get back to the vice for an imitation.

Was at the garden years ago. Saw some huge 'gills. Great trip for you!
