Thanks mybadhabit and Floyd. I heard somewhere that if you had a dragonfly on your hat or shirt that these deer flies would stay clear of you. I might have to try that. fred

These guys are often found in the areas we like to fish. They are blood suckers like their cousins the horse fly. This one is tied on a size 20. Fred

Hi Paul I try to immitate a fleeing crawfish with quick strips and pauses. Most of the strikes come on the pause. The mon weedguard keeps them from hanging up on most of the timber but it doesn't do alot against aquatic weeds. When fishing a weed line I try to keep it just above the grass. Fred

Thanks Skip, I 've taught friends to tie similar ones with varried sucess. Some are better than others at the finer points. But they all fish well . Fred

Thanks Ray , I 've learned alot from looking at your soft hackles and asking you questions .I hope one day I can tie one as nice as yours. Paul , the feather I used is a grouse body feather. Fred

Tinkering with one of my slider patterns . I've decided to make a smaller frog slidder with ,what I think is a cool looking profile. Dare I say , almost cute. The reduced size should allow me to throw this with a 4wt/5wt so it should work really nice with the 7/8 wt that I normaly use when fishing for lmb. Thanks for looking, Fred

Thanks Paul and ditz2 . Paul answered the question as well as I could have.I had a step by step on my computer and it crashed two weeks ago. I have a more simple and older sbs on cd .I'll redo the sbs and either give it to Hatches online mag or post it in my website. Fred

The shrimp are tied with 40 and 10 lb test. The thread is 4mm mono . The tail is 40lb pinched down with plyers . The eyes are 40lb melted. The antenae is the 4mm thread and the legs are 10lb test. I horozontaly stack 40lb and 10 lb mono to get the shape I want and I coat it with flexament. You have to caot it as you go because once your finished the flexament wont be able to penetrate thru all the mono. Here I used different colored mono and clear mono colored with permanent markers. By coating the markers at different levels of wrapping it gives it a deep livinig coloration that can be seen when held in your hand. Thanks,Fred

These are tied on #1 2x stainless Eagle Claw saltwater hooks 066A-1 .With mono line of different colors and clear mono thread you can achieve a range of color varriations.
